Who we are

A safe haven for children who are in need of a home in the state foster system.

S oHome Kids Foundation is an advocate for children and adolescents in the foster system. One primary way we serve kids is through our residential group home that provides a loving environment for boys and girls, ages 0-18. By keeping our criteria open, we can accept a variety of children from different backgrounds including, but not limited to, siblings in care. It is the heartbeat of our foundation to provide a safe, loving home until children and teens find an appropriate placement in a suitable foster home.

Get involved

Our home exists for three purposes

These select components guide everything we do and provide structural support for our home.

Provide

Provide children and teens the experience of what home truly feels like through sacrificial love, unification, and stability.

Empower

Empower everyone involved from staff to kids to experience what being the hands and feet of Jesus actually looks like.

Unite

Unite the community to solve a problem that is possible to solve. Engage them by raising awareness on this relevant issue.

Heart alone is not enough to fund the work we do. We need your help to make this vision a reality.

It Starts Here…

Why we’re needed

Our first home will be located in the South Eastern region of Kansas in the city of Neodesha. While the need is great throughout the state, this region in particular has a desperate need for our home due to its proximity to larger cities. Currently, children needing immediate placement are being transported an average of 2 hours away to the Wichita and surrounding areas. There are an average of 73 removals of children per month in the Eastern Region alone.

How we’re different

At SoHome, we provide children with a unique experience they won’t find anywhere else.

1)

We keep siblings together

Current studies state that over half of children in foster care have one or more siblings in the foster system. In addition, 75 percent of those have been separated from their other siblings. Sibling groups are placed on priority in terms of placement by state agencies at SoHome. We emphasize family and home at our facility and what better way to do this than by keeping sibling groups together.

2)

We facilitate a true “home” environment

We emphasize the importance of home and structure our interaction with the children accordingly. Staff and volunteers present themselves in a way that is like family. This allows us to break down common barriers often found in a residential facility. The staff attire is more casual than a uniform, dinner is eaten together family style in the evenings, children afraid of the dark are given a hand to hold, volunteers are required to give multiple hugs, vacations take place at the appropriate times during the year, and in everyway feasible we make sure our house feels like a home.
